KEY REQUIREMENTS

Use the vessel’s voyage class and cargo profile to determine the applicable Singapore scale before ordering, replenishing or certifying the medical chest.

01 · Select the correct scale
Match the First Schedule to the vessel’s operation: foreign-going, home-trade or special-limit voyage.
02 · Maintain compliant stores
Keep the prescribed medicines, medical equipment and first-aid kits complete, in date and ready for use.
03 · Arrange annual inspection
A registered pharmacist must inspect the applicable stores at least once every 12 months.
04 · Check dangerous cargo
Review the additional supplies required by the Second Schedule against the cargo carried.
Operational note
The final quantity and composition depend on vessel type, voyage class, persons on board and cargo. Confirm the current statutory text before supply or inspection.

Dangerous goods & IMDG

Additional medical-store check for dangerous cargo

For packaged dangerous goods, the IMDG Code governs safe carriage under SOLAS chapter VII. For the medical chest, check Singapore’s Second Schedule against the actual cargo manifest and emergency-response needs.

Current reference: IMDG Code 2024 Edition, Amendment 42-24, mandatory from 1 January 2026. IMDG complements—and does not replace—the Singapore medical-store regulation.
